BY THE WAY ~
Do take some time with your children before you get up to Camp to teach them how to avoid picking up and spreading germs/viruses:
Cover mouth with hand or crook of elbow for coughing/sneezing, then wash or wipe hands
Wash hands and face often
Don't share candy or drinks with friends
There is a nurse or doctor on staff every week of the summer, so help is at hand if you do need medical help. In case of gastro-intestinal illness/mess in your cabin or anywhere on the camp grounds, let someone in the office know as there are disinfecting procedures that will be taken.
Babies in diapers must wear plastic covers, especially in the lagoon, lawn and pool areas. No naked babies are allowed. No exceptions.
Thanks in advance for helping to keep Mather fun!!

Note to Newbies
from a Mather Mom ~
We've been coming to Camp Mather for four years now and when I find out that someone we know is going for the first time, I send them our list of what we wish we'd known before going for the first time. Everyone who reads it tells me later that they're glad they did.
These are a few of the things:
* Cell phones don't work at Camp Mather. There are pay phones and you can buy phone cards in the general store
* The cabins have electrical outlets and it gets very dark, so if you have small children who get concerned in new dark places, bring a nightlight (and lamp/s)
* Bring a combination lock if you are in a cabin. Normally, you'd expect to keep your valuables in your car, but the parking areas can sometimes be quite a ways from the cabins.
* Bring twice as much sunscreen and bug stuff as you think you'll need, the general store may run out
* Our family of five brings about 50 half-liters of water
* The women's bath house (Bathouse A) next to the dining hall has a tub at the far end of the showers if you have kids that are more comfortable in a bathtub than a shower.
* Bring a way to get all your stuff from your cabin to the lake. Either a wagon or one of those wheeled things for walking groceries home from the store. It also comes in handy for toting a tired child from the lake to the dining hall. (Baskets on bikes are mighty handy too.)
* My biggest concern was access to coffee. The general store sells coffee between meal times.
These tips are ones that you forget about when you've been to Camp Mather a few times, but you have no idea just reading the packing list why some things are on the list until you've been there (like how important it is to bring enough bikes for everyone!) Looking forward to Week 2, '06 ~
