[Proposition J Contract/Camp Mather Operations for Recreation and Parks Department/Fiscal Emergency]
Resolution concurring with the Controller's certification that Camp Mather Operations for Recreation and Parks Department can be performed by private contractor for a lower cost than similar work performed by City and County employees. Mayor presented. RECEIVED AND ASSIGNED to Budget and Finance Committee. The Mayor requests this item be heard before the Budget & Finance Committee in the process of the Board's consideration of the Mayor's proposed budget for FY 2005-06.
Friends of Camp Mather (FoCM) Naturalist / Environmental Educator for Camp Mather, a much appreciated and beloved role at San Francisco's family camp
This is a seasonal contract position. Camp Mather has a naturalist for 10 weeks over the course of the summer, and possibly 2 weeks in the fall; the position may be held by more than one person over the summer; Summers 2006 and 2007 there were 3 different naturalists who split the job, coming up for different weeks. The position officially begins the first week of camp and ends the last week, with orientation beginning June 3, one week before the first week.
Naturalist will develop and lead 1-2 sessions a day for 5 days a week. Sessions will be geared to different age groups. The naturalist is encouraged to develop their own educational program and present their ideas for review.
The applicant should have:
- Natural history skills, particarly of the flora and fauna of the Sierra Nevada. Personal knowledge of the area around Camp Mather and Hetch-Hetchy reservoir is a plus.
- Knowledge of Native American history of the area.
- Knowledge of the history of Hetch-Hetchy.
- Experience in environmental education with all age groups, leading groups of children and adults.
- Experience working with diverse cultural and socio-economic groups.
- Experience in environmental education program development.
- Organizational skills and ability to work independently.
In addition, naturalist will provide some hours to Camp Mather, SFR+P, at the direction of the Camp Manager in exchange for room and board.
Camp Mather is situated at the northern entrance to Yosemite, near Hetch-Hetchy reservoir. Mostly San Francisco residents attend the recreational camp for 1 week/year. Campers reflect the economic, social, ethnic and cultural diversity of San Francisco. FoCM is a non-profit dedicated to the preservation and enhancement of the city-owned camp. The applicant will provide their own transportation to and from camp.
Competive compensation is offered, depending on experience, includes room and board. FoCM is an equal opportunity employer.
